DIY - Paper Base Chandbali Tutorial

Check Out my Step by Step tutorial on how to make a Paper Base Chandbali on your own. So elegant, so rich, so EASY! I hope you enjoy the tutorial! If you make one, please do post it in my page NANZ. Would love to have your feedback too.

Here's what you need for Paper Base Chandbali.
  • A4 size Cardstock (white or Offwhite- 240 gsm)
  • Two Round Objects to mark the outline (Bigger size & Smaller size)
  • Ruler (To measure)
  • Scissors (To cut the crescent Shape)
  • Acrylic Paint (Your choice of color)
  • Fevicol MR (Glue)
  • Stone Chain
  • Pearl Chain
  • Eyepin, Bead cap, Round pearl bead
  • Pearl Half beads (5mm)
  • Ear hook
  • Camel Acrylic Gloss Medium
  • Paint brush

LET'S GET STARTED!!!

1. Take a A4 size Cardstock (240 gsm) and fold it into 4 halves.

2. On top of it, with the bigger size object draw an outline with a pencil or pen.

3. While choosing the bigger object make sure that this size decides your size of the chandbali.

4. Now using the smaller object, mark an inner outline and measure it using a ruler.

5. Mark the centre point of the smaller object size and draw a straight line on both sides as shown in the above figure. Now the highlighted one is the major part in your Chandbali.

6. Now, cut the highlighted part using scissors and you get 4 equal crescent shaped paper bases.

7. Paint them with acrylic color of your choice. Not necessary to paint on both the sides. So the upper part is painted and the other side will be left in white color. Leave it to dry for 5 min.

8. Make the four crescent shapes into two, by sticking both together. Remember that the other side is not painted and its just white in color.

9. Once its dried, apply fevicol to the curved edge as shown in pic.

10. Assemble the stone chain. Again apply glue and stick the stone chain to the bottom curved edge.

11. Repeat the same procedure for the other paper base too. Now, the base is ready with stone embellishment.

12. Same way, stick the pearl chain too on both the paper bases. Now, the entire paper base got ready.

13. Take an eye pin and insert the pearl bead ball and bead cap as shown in figure.

14. Take up one paper base and apply glue on the other side which is white in color. Let it dry for 2 mins. Now, place the eye pin on top of the glue as shown in pic and hold it for few seconds so that it gets stuck to the paper base. Usually metal finds difficult to get stuck with paper so stick it firmly and let it get embedded onto the glue.

15. Now place the other paper base on top of the bottom paper base. Arrange the bead cap in such a way so that it gets seated on top of the paper base.

16. Stick the Pearl half beads (5mm) to cover the irregular shape and to give a grand look.

17. Once its ready, take a ear hook and expand it. Now connect the loop to eye pin and leave the other side onto the other eye pin. A perfect, simple and elegant Chandbali is ready to wear. Some they like matte finish and some they like a glossy finish. Since i wanted my PAPER BASE CHANDBALI to give an enamel look, i want it to be super glossy. So, here is what i did.

18. Camel Acrylic Gloss medium is available in stores. It will be in a liquid form. Dip the brush into the medium and give a single coat. Once the coat is completely dried give another coat. Likewise, To make the paper base chandbali more glossier, you can even give 3 to 4 coats. But make sure that you give an ample amount of time to get it dried in between each coat.

19. Let it dry completely and follow the same process onto the backside too. Please dont be in a hurry to finish your chandbali. Kindly take time in finishing all the steps and the process. My Chandbali is getting dried and hope you can see the pic with the medium on it.

20. And now, do you want to know like how the completed, perfect Paper Base Chandbali looks? Here it is.
